WMD your .. Willpower of Major Determination

Have you ever questioned yourself for not doing or committing to something you had set your mind on? How did it make you feel, what was the impact? It may be that you are there right now, in reading this what feelings does it evoke. One thing is for sure, you won’t be congratulating yourself on a job poorly done!

So whether it’s a personal focus to improve the quality of your life, such as health, quality time with the family or friends or maybe a goal within your business you absolutely know is achievable the net outcome is the same. Despondency and dissatisfaction, a polite way of suggesting you be a little **** off! (I’ll let you fill in the blank). Here’s the thing, I’d bet it’s not a one-off issue, rather a pattern of behavior where you have regularly derailed your own potential.

So what does it take to create a Willpower of Major Determination? Or as I like to call it, ‘find your WMD’.

What is willpower or more often wontpower? Well, we’ll focus on the former. The one thing willpower is is your surest route towards success in what you strive to achieve and who you want to be. Willpower is the ability to hold yourself accountable and be responsible for your actions. I’ve no doubt there will have been many occasions where you’ll have been ‘upset’ with yourself. Asking that great question, ‘why does this always happen to me’ or similar. Well, that’s merely wontpower in action.

When has feeling sorry for yourself ever made a difference.

Probably the most significant challenge here is your ability to control your inner commentary. That is the voice in your head, what you tell yourself. Now let’s be clear that voice isn’t the third party, it’s not an alter ego external to your consciousness. It’s YOU. You control the voice in your head. The question here’s is how does that voice begin to offer you the way forward in order to achieve your true potential.

Can I hear me, is there anyone there!

You are responsible for enjoying the short-term gains. Having 30 minutes extra in bed, that tasty doughnut or two, a great night out with nothing to show for it because you can’t remember it. Maybe being trapped IN your own business because you can’t pick a phone up, invest in support you need, employee someone to leverage what you do, or chase up whats owed because your scare you’ll lose a client! And that’s only the top of the iceberg, you’ll each of you have examples of the small things you know you should be doing but aren’t.

It’s crazy that the clear majority of us have everything we need right now to live the life we desire but have no willpower, uncommitted to our own life. Well here’s the simple fact of life. In the end, regret is weighed in Tons, whilst the step by step pursuit of our dream life is weighed in ounces. Don’t you owe it to yourself to start to make the simple changes to start moving in the direction you truly desire? Stop allowing your inner commentary to sabotage your life!

This is where WillPOWER comes in. In my military days, we used to call this pig-headed self-discipline. Do what you know needs to be done when it needs to be done no matter what the circumstance. That may be waking in the middle of the night in storm conditions to deploy, getting out of a warm sleeping bag in arctic conditions, keeping going when your body is screaming out to stop and take a breather, you get the idea. Just think of those professional athletes and the self-discipline they have. Getting up at 5 every day to train, eating the healthy option, getting to sleep early and repeating daily, monthly and yearly.

Take a moment to determine just what are you putting off, what are you letting yourself off the hook for? If you truly want to achieve your true potential, shouldn’t you be tougher on yourself? The challenge today is the quick fix, the easy option and ultimately leads to the short-term solution. If your happy with that great join the masses and don’t look on with envy and disappointment because you could have been someone. Rather get control of your inner dialog, the constant commentary which is probably letting you off the hook. That is YOU letting YOU off the hook.

Now I could offer a 15-point strategy to live the life of your dreams or the secret to being successful in 3 simple steps. The reality is starkly different, there is no secret, it’s not easy and it will be tough. The one thing I would suggest is to have total clarity of just what you want to achieve and by when. Then when you decide upon a course of action and activity disrupt your inner dialog at every murmur, interruption, doubt or easy option by staying true to your destination. NO, I won’t allow myself off the hook, I will commit, do, achieve, deliver, act, focus in order to steadily move in the direction I define to live my life as I want.
