When is NOW a good time to get started?

We had discussed all the benefits and challenges which arise from a coaching relationship. We had identified where the opportunities were within the business and with the team to help develop the growth going forward. The business owner could even see the personal benefits of having high levels of accountability and focusing on the future. The business owner was satisfied that I was the right coach.  I was confident I could coach the business owner.  We could see working together that there would be a  significant return on investment in coaching. It seemed we were ready to get started.

Okay, let’s get started then.

Um, I just need to finish …

Sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. We can see the merits and benefits of making a positive decision in a certain direction. Yet we somehow manage to self-sabotage at the last moment. Rather than making that decisive decision and moving forward, we opt for what seems like is our safe place. Staying in our comfort zone and suggesting we will get started tomorrow.

Stop Perpetuating NOW.

The stark reality here for most people who fall into this trap is tomorrow will never come. As a result, making the decision will never happen. Even though you convince yourself that you will get started you end up doing more of the same. Essentially you end up in a cycle of perpetuating now.

Henry Ford said it best when he stated, ‘do what you’ve always done, and you’ll get what you’ve always got’. Interestingly today that statement probably has one significant difference to it and that is ‘do what you’ve always done and today you’ll get less then you’ve always got’. The world is moving at a pace and it’s not slowing down, it’s not going to wait for you to find yourself in a position where you feel that it’s right to make the decision, that it feels good to make the decision, or that you have a high level of confidence in making the decision.

Do it NOW

If you have a decision to make, then be committed to making that decision now. If you feel that there is an opportunity to grow, improve, advance, expand then don’t you owe it to yourself your team and business to make that decision.

I find the best recipe for making any decision is having the balanced feeling of both excitement and trepidation. If I know that making the decision is going to add value and I’m going to move in the direction that I want, then that’s going to fill me with excitement. If I also have clarity that in making the decision, it’s almost certainly going to take me out of my comfort zone and that creates a level of trepidation and excitement then I know it’s the right thing to do.

Let me be brutally clear right now today in your life, business or even with the team if you’re not growing, you’re dying. So, if you have a critical decision to advance and accelerate that growth, to step out of your comfort zone then now is absolutely the right time to make that decision.

Happy to pick up on the discussion.
